Genetic Homogeneity among Rajputs of Kangra District, Himachal Pradesh: A Study Based on Surname Analysis

Surname analysis is a potentially useful technique to detect population sub-structuring. The present study was conducted with the aim of assessing genetic heterogeneity among Rajputs of Kangra distt, Himachal Pradesh. Data was collected from individuals through interview schedule. Presence of only 19 surnames, isonymous marriages among 12 surnames and a higher Repeated Pair value (4.7 x 10) over its random component (1.89x 10 ) indicates low genetic heterogeneity among the studied population.
